* Hava nagila * is een lied uit de Hebreeuwse volksmuziek. Hava nagila betekent; "laat ons gelukkig zijn". Het is het lied van feestviering, dat vooral erg populair is bij de Joodse- en de Romagemeenschap. I
n de volkscultuur wordt het gebruikt als metonym voor het jodendom en is het een vast ritueel op vele joodse festivals.
Hoewel de melodie erg oud is, is de tekst waarschijnlijk pas in 1918 geschreven naar aanleiding van de Balfour-verklaring, waarin het Verenigd Koninkrijk de zionistische plannen voor een Joods nationaal tehuis in Palestina onder voorwaarden ondersteunde.

Hava nagila is a song from the Hebrew folk music. Hava means nagila; "let us be happy". It is the song of celebration, which is especially popular with the Jewish and Roma communities. In folk culture, it is used as a metonym for Judaism and is a regular ritual at many Jewish festivals.
Although the melody is very old, the text was probably not written until 1918 in response to the Balfour declaration, in which the United Kingdom supported the Zionist plans for a Jewish national home in Palestine under certain conditions.
