Nacido como Jean-Philippe Léo Smet, de padre belga y madre francesa, es considerado como un icono en el mundo francófono desde los inicios de su carrera. Para algunos es el equivalente francés de Elvis Presley.
Hace pocos años tuvimos la ocasión de escucharle en una de esas películas entrañables que tan bien hacen los Franceses...Potiche ..dirigida por François Ozon ..y con una Banda Sonora extraordinaria compuesta por Philippe Rombi...En uno de los momentos escuchabamos cantar a Johnny Hallyday esta canción...J’ai oublie de vivre...
