(11 Jun 2018) A fellow chef and friend of Anthony Bourdain says the famed cook, writer and television host inspired millions to share in his delight of food and wanted good cuisine to be accessible to everyone.
French Chef Yves Camdeborde last saw Bourdain two months ago and said he appeared "happy".
Bourdain died Friday in France in an apparent suicide at the of age 61.
Camdeborde says Bourdain always encouraged him, "we went down a path which was a bit against the pre-conceived ideas. He was there to take our hand and say 'guys, don't give up, you are the ones who are right," he said.
Camdeborde concluded by saying he was sad but would not judge nor analyse Bourdain's apparent suicide.
Widely loved and rarely afraid to speak his mind, Bourdain achieved celebrity status after the publication in 2000 of his best-selling book "Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly."
The book created a sensation by combining frank details of his life and career with behind-the-scenes observations on the culinary industry.
Bourdain's fame rose higher thanks to his CNN series "Parts Unknown."
